  1. 8 WAYS DRONE OPERATORS CAN SPEND THEIR TIME DURING LOCKDOWN

  2. Being temporarily grounded as a drone operator is one thing, but not being able to leave your home with your drone, that’s another thing entirely! That said, most drone users are a creative bunch, used to thinking outside of the box, and they have doubtless been busy trying to think of ways to stay positive and remain creative until better times appear on the horizon. If you’re a drone operator still stuck in lockdown or preparing for restrictions to be reduced, here are 8 ways that you can prepare yourself and remain positive about the future:

  3. Review your business strategy This is a prime time for taking a good, long look at your current business strategy and assessing whether it needs to be adapted or updated in any way. Have any new opportunities presented themselves during lockdown, or do you need to work on your creativity to stay viable as we come out of lockdown? • Review your website Many drone operators have a website to advertise their business, but do you update it often enough, and is it attracting the right audience? Use this time to ensure that your website is visually catchy and can keep site visitors interested.

  4. Hone your skills While you may not be able to go outside and fly your drone, you can certainly work on honing other elements of your craft, such as sharpening your photo and editing skills, or learning a new digital skill. • Get up to date with social media Today, a website isn’t enough to keep you ahead of your competitors, you need a strong social media presence, too. Instagram is just one social media platform that can be extremely useful for showcasing your work and generating a following, which can lead to new customers, or at the very least, new referrals.

  5. Ask yourself if you’re paying too much for your supplier contracts? Reducing your outgoings is something that you should try to do, and periodically reviewing your supplier contracts is always a good idea. The pandemic has provided a great opportunity for doing this, and with online comparison sites in abundance, it’s never been easier.

  6. Learn to embrace video meetings and communication Companies have been increasingly turning to video conferencing as a means of staying in touch with employees and associates while abiding by lockdown restrictions, and while this technology has been around for years, it’s not set to go anywhere, so learning to adapt to this simply makes sense. • Learn how to live stream Live streaming to clients has become a powerful way to use drone technology, and the pandemic has given drone users the perfect opportunity to learn how to do this.

  7. Get your pictures uploaded Even if you’re new to the world of drone flying, you probably still have a lot of images and videos in storage. Spending some time uploading these to the DST stock footage page could be a great (and easy) way to make money during the pandemic and could generate an income for you for years to come. Flying your drone in the open skies may not be possible for some time, but make sure that when that time does come, you’re ready and can jump back into action with a huge social media following, a trendy and informative website, and all the skills to be at the top of your game and ahead of your droning competitors.
