  1. Joya’s Birthday Problem… Joya's tenth birthday is in just a few days… She has narrowed her birthday party ideas to: • Pizza party at Palermo’s Palace, or • Ice cream, cake and presents at home…

  2. Joya’s Birthday Problem… Joya's mother says: “Last year we spent $60 on your birthday party. We can only afford to spend that same amount again this year. Last year you had 12 friends over for ice cream, birthday cake, and games. That cost $5 for each person. If we go to Palermo’s Pizza it will cost $10 for each person. In that case, you will only be able to take 6 friends. Or, for the same $60, you can have 12 friends over for ice- cream, cake, and games. It's your choice."
