Preliminary Design Review Micromouse EE 296 Spring 2008
Our Team • Blaise Arita Team Leader • Maran Osakoda Organizer • Shaunty Kleinschmidt Programmer • Matthew Menor Designer
Overview • This semester we will be designing, fabricating, and programming a small robotic mouse to make its way to the center of a difficult 16X16 maze.
Accomplishments So Far • Top looking sensors • Made a prototype uMouse • General Structure of our uMouse • Bought most of the materials • Started writing some of the Algorithms
A Look into the Hardware • This is what we first started off with: • Material: 1/32 Aluminum • Problems: Very thin, Not rigid Wasted Space No support for other • hardware components
Our uMouse Now • Material: 1/16 Angled Aluminum 8 Shortened M3 Screw • Lighter • Motors very close together • Use 8 AA batteries • Use Velcro to secure battery holders • Use “mini furniture sliders” to keep the uMouse balanced • Use top 2 Aluminum plates to mount circuit boards
Some Potential Problems • No Wheels • Can’t test height off the ground • Can’t test position and distance of sensor boards • Difficult to keep wires organized • Fitting the circuit boards on the chassis with the wheels • Finding the quickest and simplest way to find the center • Once to the center, how to go back to the start efficiently • Motors getting too hot • Supplying enough power for the 10 minutes • Time Management
Tasks Remaining • Number of sensors to be used • Need to test sensors for approximate wall distance • Build circuit boards • Finish construction of uMouse • Program and test on uMouse
