  4. Cross-Examination How can you use what you learned from the Offender Expert’s presentation on offenders to improve your cross-examination? Using the Cates case:  1.   Identify areas of cross-examination that you would like to cover. 2.   Develop some questions that you might use to cover those areas.

  5. DO:Corroborate the victim’s account, but DON’T:Give the defendant an opportunity to retell his “story”

  6. Don’ts of Cross-Examination DON’T: 1.Ask the “one question too many” 2.Give the witness permission to disagree (Don’t ask “Would you agree that…” or “Isn’t it true…”) 3. Argue with the witness
