Opening Activity: District Profile* • 2 Buildings • 1 K-6 • 1 7-12 • 260 Educators • 3 Administrators *Note: Fictitious district and educator data for activity purposes only.
District Profile Activity Utilize the question stems and word cards to discuss the following: • What are your initial impressions of the district profile? • What areas would be helpful to further explore? • Are there any areas that seem as if more support, training, or refinement would be useful? • Are there other categories of data that might assist you in moving further? • There are blank strips and cards if you have ideas beyond those provided.
ScIP Composition The ScIP must include: • The school principal • An assistant/vice principal or a designee if the school does not have one • A teacher * More staff members may be added to the ScIP, provided that teachers represent at least one-third of the total membership. The principal has final responsibility for ScIP membership but must consult with the local association representative in determining a suitable teacher to participate.
The Role of the ScIP The members of the ScIP have the following specific responsibilities under the TEACHNJ Act: • Ensuring that evaluation procedures are implemented; • Ensuring that procedures for Corrective Action Plans are implemented; • Identifying PD opportunities for staff members; and • Overseeing the mentorship of new teachers at the building level.
Data and Confidentiality • The protection of teacher and student confidentiality rights should be a key consideration. • Evaluation data of a particular employee must remain confidential. • Districts must store evaluation data in each teacher's personnel file or in another secure manner that is easily accessible to the teacher (either electronically or on paper).
Mentorship Activity • Select the appropriate data set: • District or Building • Analyze the data using the pre-set question starters and topics. • You may use the blanks to create your own questions and topics. • Develop a hypothesis of the data regarding the Mentorship responsibilities. • Create an action plan to address your hypothesis. • Use the sticky notes to generate ideas. • Refine your ideas on the action plan form.
Evaluation Implementation Activity • Select the appropriate data set: • District or Building • Analyze the data using the pre-set question starters and topics. • You may use the blanks to create your own questions and topics. • Develop a hypothesis of the data regarding the Evaluation Implementationresponsibilities. • Create an action plan to address your hypothesis. • Use the sticky notes to generate ideas. • Refine your ideas on the action plan form.
