However, I want to challenge that stereotype by focusing on the professional development and self-improvement opportunity that is presentedtoGreeklifemembers-especiallythosethatholdleadership positions.Currently,Iservemyone-hundredmembersororityaschapter president and work with other officers to maintain a well-balanced, structured,andinvolvedorganization. Fraternitiesandsororitiesmustoperateasasmallbusinessfirst,anda livestreamingsocialitesecondinordertobesuccessful.Iwouldliketo point out some key concepts that show the relation between Greek organizationsandbusinesses. Greekorganizations: •Divideofficersintoteamstoworkonspecificareasofthechapter •Mustoperateonastrictbudget,fueledsolelyfrommember'sdues •Mustmarketthemselveswellinordertocontinuesteadilytorecruitnew members •Havemissionstatementsandvaluestoholdtheirmemberstoandgear theirbrand •Mustfollowrulesfrom,andreportto,theirnationalheadquarters •Haveinsurancetocovertheirorganizationanditsmembers,alongwith manypoliciesandproceduresinplaceforholdingevents ThesearejustacoupleofpointsthatshowhowGreekorganizationsare ranasthegreatestbusiness,combiningfriendshipwithprofessionalism

For example, we had a tiny crisis with flyersthatweremadetopromoteaneventwewerehaving.Oncethey camein,wenoticedthecontactemailontheflyerswasspelledwrong. Aftersomedeliberation,wemadeadecisiontoutilizetheflyerswehad andmadeabrandnewemailwiththetypoincluded. Anenormouspartofowningasuccessfulorganizationiseffectiveand professionalcommunication.Ourmainforumofcommunicationbetween officersandtheadvisoryboardisemailing.Ihavediscoveredjusthowto properly send and respond to emails in an expert manner. My communication skills have improved substantially since being truly a leaderofmychapter.Idiscoveredtocommunicateconciselyandformat informationinthemosttrulyeffectiveway.Ihavediscoveredproviding information in bullet lists is the better way to obtain members to see messagesfully.Ourofficersmustholdteammeetingsandgetreportsof progress in different areas on the team. Officers are responsible for organizing their particular meetings and taking minutes to record the thing that was discussed. Greek organizations teach members to effectively and professionally communicate through emailing, holding meetings,andworkingtogetherwithothers. One of the very valuable traits that I am still learning through my presidency, is how to get confident with hard conversations. I work closely with your Director of Standards and Ethics to be sure our membersareholdingthemselvestoyourhighidealsandvalues.When someone is falling behind, it's our job to have conversations together aboutwhythatishappeningandwhatweareabletodotoensureit

Greek life has much more to offer compared to social aspect of the corporation,andcantrulyprepareadultstoparticipatetheprofessional world.Throughdevelopingmemberspersonally,anddevelopingofficers professionally,Greekorganizationscanprovidelife-changingcollegiate experiencesthatcan'tbefoundelsewhere.
