A little over 25 years ago, Long Island had a single winery operating in the area, but there are now more than 50 wineries in operation, covering over 3,000 acres of land. This is a wine region that is considered by many in the industry to be one of the most exciting areas among all those that grow wines across the country.
The varietals that are being produced there are starting to rack up the awards, making this area on the East coast of New York State one that more and more wine lovers are adding to their must visit places.
The wineries in Long Island are spread between Suffolk and Nassau counties, with the majority of wine producers establishing their business on the North and South Forks.
It’s a beautiful part of the state that is fast becoming a destination spot for food and wine lovers. The look of the region may come as a surprise to those that has visited some of the better known wine trails across the US. There are no rolling hills covered in vines here, but that does not take away from the natural beauty of the region as a whole.
The growth of the regions means that there are also plenty of wine related events on the calendar throughout the year. Some of the events are region wide, while others are put on by the individual wineries that make Long Island their home.
