Summary • Modalert is a wakefulness-promoting medicine and decreases excess drowsiness due to conditions like – • Narcolepsy • Other sleep disorders • Obstructive sleep apnea (where a person halts breathing for a brief period in sleep) • All these conditions increase daytime sleepiness and Modalert is used to prevent daytime sleepiness in patients.

About Modalert • The exact mechanism of action is not known, though external scientific studies have demonstrated that Modafinil present in Modalert inhibits the reuptake of the chemical dopamine. • Dopamine is a crucial controller of movements and coordination by attributing itself to the dopamine reuptake pump and resulting in an increase in extracellular dopamine. • Modalert activates glutamatergic circuits while confining a chemical called GABA that induces sleep.
