  1. What is CDS? (Combined Defence Service)CDS is a national level entrance exam conducted by UPSC for the recruitment in Officers Training Academy(OTA), Air Force Academy(AFA), Indian Naval Academy(INA), and Indian Military Academy(IMA). Eligibility Criteria • Those who are graduated or appearing in the final semester can apply for this exam. • The minimum age limit is 19 years however upper age may vary for different Academy but it is between 23-25. • Female candidates are only eligible for (Officers Training Academy) OTA Examination. • Candidate must be physically and mentally fit.

  3. CDS Exam Pattern • The mode of exam is Offline, so the candidates will be allocated an OMR sheet. • The question paper will be in both English & Hindi. • CDS exam consists of Three Subjects including Elementary Mathematics, General Knowledge, and English. Whereas the written paper for CDS OTA consists of 2 subjects only English and General Knowledge. • The paper for mathematics will be of Matriculation level. However, General Knowledge includes questions from Modern and Ancient History of India and Geography of nature which candidate should be able to answer. The question paper of English will be designed to test the candidates’ understanding of basic grammar.

  4. Officers Training Academy(OTA) Officers Training Academy(OTA) provides an opportunity for Non-tech entry to both men and women with any regular degree. However, in the CDS exam, a women candidate can only apply for OTA (Officer Training Academy). For (SSC Course for Men and Women ) in OTA: The candidate must have age between 19 to 25.

  5. Air Force Academy(AFA) The Air Force Academy imparts training to different branches of India Air Force i.e Flying, Technical and Ground Duty Branches. Male candidates whose age is between 20-24 years and completed his Degree (with Physics and Maths in 10+2 level) can apply for the Air Force Academy(AFA) through CDS Exam.

Indian Naval Academy(INA) Indian Naval Academy(INA) gives an opportunity to join the Indian Navy for the basic training of all the Naval officers to induct into the Indian Navy and Indian Coast Guard. The Male candidate falling in the age group of 19- 22 Years and completed B. Tech or B. E Degree (Engineering from recognized University) can apply for Indian Naval Academy(INA) CDS exam.

  7. Indian Military Academy(IMA) The Indian Military Academy, Dehradun (IMA) is the officer training Academy of the Indian Army in Dehradun. One has to appear for the CDS written exam. Unmarried male candidates below the age group of 25, who are studying in the final year or have completed Graduation from Recognised University can apply for CDS to be a part of IMA.
