ImportantNews RegardingNRC • Assam recognizes 1.9 crore legal citizens in first NRC draft Guwahati: The first draft of the much expected National Register of Citizens (NRC) was published last night which include name of 1.9 crore applicants. The NRC has been updated to detect illegal citizens in the state. Talking to the media in Guwahati last night, Register General of India, Sailesh and State NRC Coordinator PrateekHajela said that name of those applicants whose verification have been completed by 31st December have been included in the draft. They said the remaining about 1.39 crore cases are under examination, scrutiny or field verification process. There was a total of 3.29 crore applicants.

As per the final draft released on Monday, 2,89,677 crore applicants have been cleared as genuine Indian citizens out of the total 3,91,384 applicants. The NRC will include the names of all Indian citizens who have been residing in Assam before March 25, 1971. Addressing the press at NRC office in Guwahati, Registrar General of India said that this is a “historic day in country and in Assam towards fulfillment of a major milestone under the monitoring of SC”. Assam NRC final draft: Here is what to do if your name is not in the list Applicants can check for names in the draft by visiting the designated NRC Sewa Kendra (NSK), which will be available on all working days from 30 July to 28 September from 10 am to 4 pm. For filing complaint After calling the toll-free helpline number, you have to mention your 21-digit Application Receipt Number (ARN) for raising the complaint.

Assam NRC draft: Supreme Court to hear matter today New Delhi: Amid high tension and political slugfest over Assam’s National Register for Citizens (NRC) draft, the Supreme Court will today hear the matter. As per the NRC final draft released, 2,89,677 crore applicants have been cleared as genuine Indian citizens out of the total 3,91,384 applicants. Division bench of the top court, headed by Justice RanjanGogoi, also directed the Centre to prepare standard operating procedure (SOP) for claims and objections.
