  3. HAPPY NEW YEAR Advent is also the beginning of the new year in the Christian Calendar. Happy New Year

  4. FOUR SUNDAYS Advent … A special time in the Church calendar when Christians prepare for the coming of Jesus.

  5. THE COMING OF JESUS First coming … Jesus born in a stable in Bethlehem – God becomes one of us – a human being The second coming … Jesus comes again at the end of time.

  6. The Advent wreath … • Symbols: • A ring/circle:God is eternal • Evergreen leaves: God is life • Four candles: One for each of the Sundays in advent • Purple candles: Sign of penance • Pink Candle: Sign of joy SYMBOLS

  7. OTHER SYMBOLS The Advent Calendar … A calendar with messages or short tasks to do for each day of advent. The Jesse Tree… Jesse was the father of King David from whose family Jesus was born. A Jesse tree shows names of main characters in the family tree of Jesus.
