  2. Introduction • Gain awareness of cultural uniqueness while reflecting on their own cultural backgrounds. • Create a curriculum that relates to children’s lives/identities • Meet CT Department of Education requirements and academic goals in Mathematics and Social Studies

  3. Objectives: Laying the Foundation • Students will comprehend the geographical layout of the world while focusing on their native countries. Justification: CT Curricular Trace Maps: STANDARD 9; Places and Regions: Students will use spatial perspective to identify and analyze the significance of physical and cultural characteristics of places and world regions.

Objectives: Laying the Foundation (cont’d.) • Broaden students’ spatial awareness: develop map and scale skills (coordinate system) to solve mathematical problems Justification: CMT Skills Checklist: Geometry & Measurement: B.2. Create and read maps and use coordinate systems to specify locations CT Math Curriculum Standards: Algebraic Reasoning: Functions 1.3: 5b. Identify the appropriate, operation or number sentence to solve a story problem. Level 4 CT Trace Maps: Ma4:5a Carry out simple math conversions

Objectives: Taking a Look at Culture • Develop their evaluative and interpersonal skills: Sift out, discuss, analyze and explain relevant cultural information to the class • Develop their analytical skills: compare and contrast cultural information.
