  2. Folk Medicine • Folk Medicine is an herb that was used in the past. • Folk medicine was here before any other medicine. • Midwives used folk medicine when they needed to deliver babies.

  3. Herbs • Saw Palmetto is good for stomachaches and diarrhea • Salvia Sage cures headaches, and colds • Cayenne pepper cures headaches and cures colds. • Yarrow is used to stop bleeding

  4. Midwives • Midwives were the first doctors to be alive • Back then, midwives were the only healers that they had • Midwives are women who cure people in the past with herbs • Currenderas are Spanish healers that were used in the past

  5. Shamans and Currerderas • Shamans are Native American people that help heal other people. • Currerderas are Mexicans that help heal with herbs .

  6. Superstition • In folk medicine people believed in cures that weren’t real. • They thought putting salt would protect the babies from fairies • They thought if you put a dirty sock on your bedpost it would help you heal. • Snail jelly was used to cure coughs .

  7. ALTERNATIVE MEDICINE Some people still use midwifes and shamans and curranderas. Some people still use folk medicine because it is cheap.
