MODULE 6: PC The Personal Computers in the Interactive Video Classrooms function just like a computer or laptop. AMX rooms have current PCs and VTEL rooms have older PCs. The computers allow the IVC instructor to display: PowerPoint, Excel, Word and other documents to both the Local and Remote Sites. Introduction to Interactive Video
Module 6: PC PC-Internet Access • Each of the IVC rooms has high speed internet access and uses Microsoft’s Internet Explorer browser and multimedia application programs such as Real Media Player, Quick Time, Windows Media Player and platform independent document readers like Adobe Acrobat. Module 6: PC PC – AMX Rooms • To display the contents of the desktop computer, select the “Desktop Computer” icon from the Local Source (green) panel at the bottom of the AMX Touch Screen. • The camera will switch to display the computer screen. Introduction to Interactive Video
Module 6: PC PC-AMX Rooms • Polycom Rooms use a Dell PC and a Windows XP operating system. • Make sure that any documents created using an older Windows Operating System is consistent with the Windows XP Operating System or the documents may not open or display. Introduction to Interactive Video
Module 6: PC PC-AMX Rooms When the “Desktop Computer” mode is engaged, all the remote site sees are the contents of the desktop computer. Note: Approximately every 2-3 minutes the camera should be switched back and forth between the “Instructor Camera” and the “Desktop Computer” icon. Introduction to Interactive Video
Module 6: PC PC- AMX Rooms • AMX rooms use a Dell PC. • Instructors can bring files into class from the following external storage devices: • Floppy disk • CD ROM • Zip disk • Laptop (an instructor can bring his/her laptop into an IVC class and display laptop stored documents to the class. Module 6: PC PC- AMX Rooms Laptop Computers To display a Laptop Computer from an AMX IVC room, a parallel port cable is needed. These cables must be supplied separately. The cable is plugged into the Extron Switcher which is installed below the instructor console or on the instructor desktop. • Connect the cable to the back of the laptop • Connect the cable to the Extron Switcher Input #2 (located below the instructor console) • Select the Laptop Computer Icon from the AMX Local Source Panel For more information about using a laptop, contact your facilitator or the Video Services Help Desk. Module 6: PC PC-VTEL Rooms • VTEL Rooms use a VTEL PC and a Windows ‘95 operating system. • Note: Some documents created with a newer operating system (XP, Windows 2000, etc.) and then launched on a VTEL IVC PC may not be accessible. The old OS may not be able to read the documents created with a newer operating system. If you are not able to open documents, contact your facilitator. Introduction to Interactive Video
Module 6: PC PC-VTEL Rooms When using the VTEL Penpal: • Select the PC icon from the Local Source Panel (below the VHS Tape icon—6th icon down). This will send the PC signal to the remote site • To display a VHS tape or DVD press BOTH the 6th icon on the Local Source PanelAND the PC icon from the View (yellow) icon.
