Definitions • Absolute bearing refers to the angle between the true North and an object. • For example, an object to the East would have an absolute bearing of 90 degrees. • Relative bearing refers to the angle between the craft's forward direction and the location of another object. • True Course is the heading of the aircraft BEARING The TRUE BEARING of a radar target is the angle between true north and a line pointed directly at the target. This angle is measured in a clockwise direction from true north. The RELATIVE BEARING angle to the radar target may also be measured in a clockwise direction from the centerline of your own aircraft and is referred to as the RELATIVE BEARING.
