Countries co-financing for new vaccines • Distribution of recommended approvals among co-financing groups: 25% Least poor; 20% intermediate; 35% Poorest; 20% fragile. • All countries have committed to pay the minimum or higher level of co-financing and have indicated the month of payment. • The co-financing requirement has not discouraged countries’ new vaccine applications. • If the Board approves these requests for NVS, during 2008 – 2012 countries are committed to co-finance US$ 33.5 million of which US $4.8 will be contributed by 5 countries with GNI per capita of less than a dollar a day (CAR, Togo, Madagascar, Niger, Congo DR).
Quality of country proposals improved during 2007 Note: Analysis based on 15 new proposals for NVS submitted in May and 16 new proposals for NVS submitted in October
Best practice: effective Technical Assistance to francophone countries in Africa • The successful outcome of this review is strongly associated to the technical assistance provided by partners like WHO • Last May, five proposals from countries in francophone Africa received conditional approval for new vaccines introduction • WHO regional office organized a workshop for the 5 countries to help them to address the conditions and share best-practices. • As a result, all 5 countries were recommended for full approval in the October round.
