  3. Summary 2: Total new support recommended for approval: US$ 428,615,500 Of the US399,622,500 recommended for vacccine support, 5,438,000 is introduction grants and US 394,184,500 is for new vaccines

Review results of Immunization Services Support (ISS) • Total multiyear funding request of nearly $29 million • The IRC recommends for approval all 8 requests: Comoros, Congo DR, Ethiopia, Kenya, Lesotho, Liberia, Nepal, Nicaragua • If approved, funding will be used to reach an additional 1.44 million children with 3 doses of DTP vaccine

  5. Review results of New Vaccines Support (NVS) • If approved, this means reaching a total of 34 million children with these 5 vaccines in 2008-12. 5

  8. Countries co-financing for new vaccines • Distribution of recommended approvals among co-financing groups: 25% Least poor; 20% intermediate; 35% Poorest; 20% fragile. • All countries have committed to pay the minimum or higher level of co-financing and have indicated the month of payment. • The co-financing requirement has not discouraged countries’ new vaccine applications. • If the Board approves these requests for NVS, during 2008 – 2012 countries are committed to co-finance US$ 33.5 million of which US $4.8 will be contributed by 5 countries with GNI per capita of less than a dollar a day (CAR, Togo, Madagascar, Niger, Congo DR).

Best practice: effective Technical Assistance to francophone countries in Africa • The successful outcome of this review is strongly associated to the technical assistance provided by partners like WHO • Last May, five proposals from countries in francophone Africa received conditional approval for new vaccines introduction • WHO regional office organized a workshop for the 5 countries to help them to address the conditions and share best-practices. • As a result, all 5 countries were recommended for full approval in the October round.
