  1. Gulfood 2023: Landmark MoU Signed Between Indian Government And Lulu Group For Millets Export Around the world, millet is available in about 6,000 different varieties. Unlike wheat, rice, and corn, millets can be grown in arid and semi-arid areas because they don't need good soil or a lot of water to grow. For more than a billion people worldwide, millets are a source of protein and energy. Millets are primarily imported by major economies of the world like Indonesia, Belgium, Japan, Germany, Mexico, Italy, the United States, the United Kingdom, Brazil, and the Netherlands. MOU For Millet Exports Following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding on 21st February 2023 at the World Trade Centre in Dubai between retail giant Lulu Hypermarket LLC and the Indian government agency, Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), millet exports from India to the UAE can be expected to increase. One of the highlights of Gulfood 2023, the biggest yearly food exhibition in the world, is the agreement. The MoU follows the two nations' CEPA agreement, which was signed and is continually being improved to ease trade. The MoU was signed by Dr. Saleem VI, chief operating officer of LuLu Group International (LLC), and Dr. Tarun Bajaj, director at APEDA, in the presence of Dr. M. Angamuthu, chairman of APEDA, Dr. Aman Puri, consul-general of India in Dubai, and MA Yusuff Ali, chairman of Lulu. Reason For Agreement The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is the third-largest country to import goods from India. As India celebrates 2023 as the International Year of Millets, the nation is promoting a variety of millet-related products as well as its selection of wheat, rice, and maize.

  2. From April to November 2022, India exported millets worth US$46.05 million. The new MoU will assist APEDA in achieving its objective of exporting millets and their value-added products for US$100 million by 2025.
