2. Planting Goji bushes are perfectly hardy (down to -15°C) and have been naturalised in Europe for several hundred years. They need a fertile neutral soil to crop well (a pH of 6.0-7.5 is ideal) in full sun or partial shade. Goji bushes will grow 2.4-3m (8-10ft) in height and spread but can be restricted to 0.9-1.2m (3-4ft). Plant your bushes as soon as possible after receipt. Should weather conditions be adverse (i.e. if the ground is frozen or too wet to plant), then the bushes can be left in their pots in a sheltered spot or if bare rooted should be temporarily heeled in until conditions improve. Dig a hole or shallow trench and cover the roots loosely with sufficient soil or compost so that no roots are exposed to the air. Improve the soil structure by thorough digging before planting and if necessary mix well rotted manure or compost into the top soil, but do not make the soil too rich. Soak the roots in water for 1-2 hours. Dig a hole comfortably large enough to take the rootball, remove the pot and plant, ensuring the top of the rootball is level with the surrounding soil or up to 1cm (½in) deeper. Apply rootgrow™ mycorrhizal fungi directly to the roots before planting - this will help the plant to establish quickly. Firm the soil around the rootball and water-in thoroughly. 3. Maintenance Watering For the first month or so your bush may need watering daily. As it establishes however this can be reduced to a thorough drench once a week, and then only in very dry weather. An annual mulch of well rotted compost will greatly improve moisture retention and soil structure, and help suppress unwanted weeds.
