Tata Zest Vs. Maruti Suzuki Swift DZire – Autoportal predicts that the newcomer will overtake the Dzire!
The sedan segment is witnessing a number of new launches and high sales at present. Maruti Swift Dzirehas been ruling this segment for a while now, but its top position is now endangered with more competent sedans out. One such possible topper is the newly launched Tata Zest. Read on to find out why Tata Zest will win more sales and appreciation than the old Dzire. • The latest 2015 MarutiDzire does look more upmarket with a wider air dam, new grille with a thick chrome slab and re-profiled headlamps with black surrounds. But it is nowhere near to the Zest which looks very fresh and impressivewith projector headlights and day time running lights. Moreover it gets a better boot design unlike Dzire where the rear looks cut off abruptly.
When we come to the interiors, the Zest continues to impress with an all-new dashboard and quality fit and finish, admitting that the Dzire was never criticised on interior quality. The seats are comfortable in both cars, but the newcomer gets more head and leg room. Boot capacity is also more in the Zest; nevertheless Dzire has more in-cabin storage space. Both the cars offer comfort features like climate control system, steering mounted audio controls and multi information display. Still Zest scores high here as it has some additional features like Bluetooth connectivity, follow-me headlamps, voice commands and reverse parking sensors.
Both Zest and Dzire are available in an array of petrol and diesel engine options. However Tata can boast that Zest is India’s first sub four meter sedan to feature Automated Manual Transmission as it will use Tata’s first F-tronic five speed gearbox. This will surely give it an upper hand over MarutiDzire. The 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol unit shows class leading torque figures. • Though the mileage figure for Dzire is slightly more as per ARAI, on the whole they are almost same for both the sedans. Both are effortless to drive in the city with a light steering, easy clutch and slick gearshift. The only point where MarutiDzire shines is in its better handling. On the braking front, again the Zest comes ahead with ABS, EBD and Cornering Brake Control as standard on all variants except the base trim.

Tata Zest’s base model comes at around Rs 4.64 lakhs, whereas MarutiDzire base model starts at Rs 4.85 lakhs. Tata has definitely made the Zest a better sedan with better styling, more appealing interiors, higher equipment, much more interior room, class leading ride quality and better drivability over and above an affordable price.
