  1. Being Prepared Is Always a Good Start Much as a golfer would use a good set of clubs or the tennis player the best racket, the precision rifle shooter or military sniper will be looking at the best firearm and ammunition and the accessories that serve their purposes best. They may want to attach suppressor wraps to their firearm, or arrive in the best apparel or they may want to make sure they have the use of, say, a good tripod during duty or while they’re out taking part in competitions. The tripod offers the user that additional stability and confidence to assist them in terms of the accuracy they are looking for whether at shorter distances or when they are dealing with long and extreme long distances as they’re handling their firearms. The tripod is not simply an aid for the amateur but is widely used by SWAT teams, military personnel and other shooters that rely to a large extent on accuracy of shot too. It is used effectively over a wide front, by both the

  2. amateur and professional, by both the competition shooter and the person serving in the armed forces. The tripod – as the terms suggests – is an aid or accessory on 3 legs and is made for easy handling, to set up quickly and afterwards to be folded up and stowed away again – under your arm, in a vehicle or in your room after use. They are normally easy to carry from one point to another because they are typically lightweight and made from aluminum or carbon fiber which means they are easy to handle and to take around from one spot to another. Very often they are used by cameramen, but the shooter can attach a mounting apparatus for a rifle to be so used on the tripod. Or, you may decide to buy a tripod especially made for you by your favourite gun dealer or a specialist provider that has all the knowledge and expertise to come up with a product that they sell all the time to buyers – or that they may actually offer to you as a custom made product. Depending on the client’s requirements and expectations there are indeed some great designers, manufacturers and suppliers of good quality, custom made tripods and other accessories for the hunter, the sniper, the soldier or security guard. Think, for example of suppressor covers for those that want to protect themselves from the heat generated in their rifle that warms up their suppressor, or the rifle sling that so many rifle owners use, for example. The tripod is used over a wide front today, also because, unlike years ago, there are better equipment to choose from, instruction courses to attend, better techniques that evolve all the time in terms of which tripod shooting is taught. Instructors with experience – and there are a few good ones out there – now teach shooters how to shoot from unconventional shooting positions which may not have been considered in the past. Advanced processes and better instruction now enable more and more shooters to benefit from tripod shooting instruction – and the use of these accessories. During basic training the shooter will be shown the different tripod shooting positions which are commonly used – as well as advanced positions for those that require a deeper understanding and demand for further instruction. The basic positions are one of the following: standing, kneeling and seated.

  3. Each one of these has their own requirements in terms of height of the tripod. With an easy-to-use tripod it is quick to set up, and the instructor – or DIY manual if you prefer to go it on your own – will teach you the settings and how to make sure your tripod has been set up to offer you the best chance at success in terms of accuracy as you fire the shots. These are the basics, and of course the shooter will decide what they need to know, how advanced they want to be in terms of using the tripod, or other accessories. Fortunately there are choices and great instruction courses available for the shooter whether you are merely an enthusiast or a shooter with a much deeper interest – and different requirements.
