Using a rifle silencer provides more than simply dampening the sound of the fired shot. Here are some other performance enhancements when using a suppressed firearm. When a shooter is exposed to loud gunfire over time, they can suffer from permanent hearing loss. Although always necessary when using a firearm, hearing protection can sometimes be an inconvenience when hunting in the field. Insufficient hearing protection can inhibit the users sense of their surroundings. For that reason, hunters may opt for silencers to limit the decibels produced by the firearm. Another advantage suppressors offer is that they reduce the amount
of recoil the rifle kicks back. Reducing recoil enhances accuracy and makes it easier to control and shoot the firearm. Some disadvantages of using silencers are that they can cause the firearms barrels to heat up quickly. When a silencer becomes increasingly hot, it can become dangerous for the shooter. If the suppressor touches the user skin, it can cause third-degree burns. In addition, if a hot silencer came into contact with dry timber or grass it might start a fire. After firing a few rounds, the silencer will be so hot that the shooter will not be able to touch it for at least fifteen to twenty minutes. Heat waves, or heat mirages can also be a disadvantage after firing several rounds with a silencer. These mirages start shimmering above the surface of the silencer, this can negatively impact the shooters vision, as they lessen visibility, which can be dangerous for long range shooting. To remedy this, the use of a silencer cover will protect against skin burns, heat mirages and accidental brush fires, especially when shooting in hot weather. A silencer cover will help more rounds to fire before the heatwave starts to effect the surrounding . In hot climates, the heatwave can begin after three to five rounds, with the help of a silencer cover, approximately twenty rounds can be fired before heat waves begin. Silencer covers are engineered to last a long time and there is no need to remove them. Besides reducing heat waves, a silencer cover has other advantages too. While carrying a firearm around using a sling, the cover will prevent coming into direct contact with the silencer, minimizing the risk of third-degree burns. Covers are a great way to protect the silencer from scratches and dings plus they camouflage the silencer without having to paint it. Suppressor covers are affordable, and it is a small investment that will ensure accurate and long-term shooting. Occasionally a shooter will encounter disadvantages when using silencers, although they can be easily overcome when using cover.
