  1. In 2007 Twilight star Robert Pattinson modelled for the Autumn winter range of clothing which was quite a change of pace for the brand. Instead of the usual sports sponsorship the brand had opted for someone very different. As you would expect this increased the brands allure with fans of the actors work. This was a very different market from the usual wearers of Hackett Polo Shirts. Thanks to their continued sponsorship in the sporting community Hackett polo shirts have become a feature of some of the largest heritage sporting events such as the yearly boat race and international rugby. By pairing themselves with only the most elite sporting events they have secured their place as one of the finest British heritage brands. However as the brand strive to reach a younger audience do they risk losing the heritage appeal and becoming just another designer clothing label?

  2. However the following year the most notable sponsorship was for British tennis so the brand are continuing to maintain strong links with the British sporting elite. Rather than continue to appeal to separate groups under the same name it may be more likely that they will break the brand into two distinct labels. Similar to the way many other designer brands have done in the past. You will often see a clothing company maintain a heritage brand while at the same time launching a new high street label. Doing this allows them to appeal to very distinct groups of customers in very different ways, and to tailor their sponsorships to which appendage of the company is most suitable. However at the minute they seem to be torn between two different groups and are at risk of alienating their historical customers in an attempt to reach a new audience. Most recently the brands have launched a sponsorship deal with the BAFTA's which has seen them showing off a range of tuxedos. This seems at odds with the Hackett polo shirts seen in the shops, which suggests they already have a divide but are trying to maintain it all under one name. It seems to me that they could easily create three distinct brands, one

  3. for their heritage clothing, and another for their sports ranges and a third aimed at the younger market which they seem to be trying to reach. This would allow for different marketing approaches for each range which would allow them to advertise in a certain way for one range that otherwise would be damaging for another. I would predict we will see this separation expand over the coming seasons.
