Why Do Vacuum Cleaners Lose Suction? When your vacuum loses suction, it can be costly to replace the entire machine. Lost or reduced suction is not uncommon, and many vacuum cleaners usually suffer from these issues. There are many reasons why some vacuums may not perform as well as they used to. Common Reasons Why Vacuums Lose Suction 1. The Bag is Full of Dirt 2. The Machine is Not Airtight 3. The Hose is Clogged or Has Holes 4. The Height isn’t Right 5. The Roller is Clogged 6. Broken Belt or Gasket Tele : 703-255-3500 * info@redvacuums.com
Why Do Vacuum Cleaners Lose Suction? The Bag is Full of Dirt If the vacuum isn’t able to clean up on a lower setting, be sure to check if a full vacuum bag is to blame for your vacuum’s loss of suction. This is really easy to determine as it’s one of the major causes of your vacuum’s poor performance. There will be a fill line on the front of a bag less vacuum, and on the vacuum bag of both upright and canister vacuums. If the dirt and hair is above the fill line of either collection spot, there’s no more room for the stuff to collect. The vacuum will continue to sound like it’s working, but won’t have any suction power to pick up anything on your floor. Tele : 703-255-3500 * info@redvacuums.com
Why Do Vacuum Cleaners Lose Suction? The Machine is Not Airtight As the name says it all, a vacuum relies on the machine creating a vacuum to suck up dirt and dust from the floor. If air is escaping the system, it can’t pull the stuff into the bag or canister. The Height isn’t Right The first and most basic reason a vacuum isn’t cleaning things up off the floor properly might be because the height setting for the vacuum is too high for the type of floor you are vacuuming. There is usually a little dial or lever on a vacuum to raise or lower it. Tele : 703-255-3500 * info@redvacuums.com
Why Do Vacuum Cleaners Lose Suction? The Hose is Clogged or Has Holes There may have been so much dirt and dust trying to get into the vacuum that it clogged the hoses leading to the bag or canister. If the hose of the vacuum is broken or cracked or has a hole, the machine will definitely lose suction. If you remove the bag and/or canister and look into the hole where it is attached to the vacuum, you might see chunks of food or clogs of hair. If you do, grab some tweezers and start pulling out hair. If you seem to be getting nowhere, you can detach the hose from the vacuum and work on it that way too. Why Do Vacuum Cleaners Lose Suction? The Roller is Clogged If the roller is covered with hair or material from your carpet, it won’t be able to turn around nor brush through the carpet and will fail miserably at picking up dirt. If you do find that the roller of your carpet is clogged and furry-looking, this can easily be fixed with a sharp pair of scissors. Starting from one end of the roller, snip through the hair and fur a little at a time. The furry mess will come off in small pieces, so as you cut, start pulling it away and tossing it in the dustbin. Once this is done, flip the vacuum over and see if it is working better. In case the vacuum still isn’t working, you may want to consider taking it to a vacuum repair shop. Vacuum repairs are often fairly inexpensive, but if you have a large problem, it may be wise to purchase a new vacuum. Tele : 703-255-3500 * info@redvacuums.com
Why Do Vacuum Cleaners Lose Suction? Broken Belt or Gasket In order to check on the belt of your vacuum cleaner you will need to open it. The belt could simply be jammed, so look around the mechanism for any debris that could cause that to happen. If the belt is fragile or cracked, then replace it. A gasket could also get worn out or broken. Simply replace it with a new one. Tele : 703-255-3500 * info@redvacuums.com
