  1. Who is Jesus in Christianity? Christianity is the most practiced religion around the world. There are more than two billion followers of the Christian faith, believing in the birth, live, death and resurrection of Jesus. Christians believe there is only one God that created heaven and earth. They believe in the father (God), the son (Jesus) and the Holy Spirit. In essence, Christianity revolves around life and death, along with the resurrection of Jesus. Christians are of the belief that God sent his son Jesus to save the world. He was crucified on the cross to offer forgiveness and sins and resurrected three days after his death. He then ascended to heaven. Many believe that Jesus will return, which is known as the Second Coming. The bible has important scriptures outlining Jesus's teachings, along with the lives and teachings of major disciples and prophets, offering instructions on how Christians should live. Christians and the Jewish religion follow the Old Testament of the bible, though Christians also believe in the New Testament. Most believe that Jesus was a real person that was born between 2BC and 7BC. What most people known about Jesus comes from the New Testament. Jesus was born to a young Jewish virgin woman, named Mary, in Bethlehem, located south of Jerusalem. Christians believe that this conception was supernatural and God impregnated Mary via the Holy Spirit. There is not much information about Jesus's childhood. What scriptures have revealed is that he grew up in Nazareth and his family fled the persecution from king Herod, moving to Egypt with is father Joseph, who was a carpenter. Most believe that he was raised Jewish aiming to reform Judaism, not to create a new religion. Jesus started his public ministry at around thirty years of age and was baptized in the Jordan River by John the Baptist. He traveled with twelve appointed disciples, also known as the twelve apostles. They taught large groups and performed miracles. The best known miracles included walking on water, curing the blind and raising a dead man named Lazarus from the grave. Jesus used short stories with hidden messages in his teachings. These included living God, loving your neighbor as yourself, forgive others who have wronged you, love your enemies and ask God forgiveness for your sins. The teachings also included that Jesus is the Messiah and was given authority to forgive others, repent for sins, do not be hypocritical and don't judge others. Many believe that Jesus died between 30AD and 33AD, the exact date is debated. The bible claims that Jesus was arrested, tried and condemned to death. He was crucified by Roman soldiers in Jerusalem and his body was placed in a tomb. Scriptures says that his body was missing three days after his crucifixion. Jesus was crucified by Roman soldiers in Jerusalem, and his body was laid in a tomb. According to scripture, three days after his crucifixion, Jesus’s body was missing. After his death, people reported encounters and sightings. The bible says the resurrected Jesus then ascended into heaven. The bible followed by Christians today is sixty six books, all written by different authors, broken into two parts; the Old Testament and the New Testament. The Old Testament is also followed in Judaism and describes the history of the Jewish people, outlining laws to follow, the lives of the prophets and the predictions of the Messiah's arrival. The New Testament, however, was written after Jesus died and was composed between 70AD and 100AD, providing information on the life and death of Jesus.
