Conditional Grants Projects • Purpose: • To transform urban and rural community library infrastructure, facilities and services (primarily targeting previously disadvantaged communities) through a recapitalised programme at provincial level in support of local government
Outcome statements • Improved coordination and collaboration between national, provincial and local • Transformed and equitable LIS delivered to all rural and urban communities
Outcomes continued…… • Improved library infrastructure and services that reflect the specific needs of communities it serves • Improved staff capacity at urban and rural libraries to approximately respond to community needs • Improved culture of reading
Key outputs • Community library governance structures established • Library materials purchased • ICT infrastructure and systems upgraded • Services for the visually impaired introduced at community libraries • New libraries structures built • Additional staff appointed • Monitoring and evaluation

Treasury Imposed Conditions • This funding is not a replacement funding for provinces • Provinces remain accountable for funds transferred to municipalities • Monitoring and evaluation at municipal level
DAC Provincial M & E • Appointed three provincial coordinators • Each responsible for 3 provinces • WC, NC, EC • KZN, GP and NW • LP, FS and MP
Infrastructure achievements in 08/09 • The upgrading of Zuurbekom library completed • A new library established in Kwaggafontein, MP • A new library at Hekpoort, Mogale City completed • Upgrading of Krugersdorp library completed • A new library established at Mkhuhlu, Bushbuckridge
Infrastructure achievements in 08/09 • A new library established at Kamaqhekeza, Nkomazi Municipality • A new library established at Morgenzon in Gert Sibande Region • Morokweng community library completed • 5 mobile book trolleys sites established in WC
Infrastructure Projects for 09/10 • Mpumalanga - Tweefontein (Thembisile Municipality) • North West - Lebaleng (Maquasi Hills Municipality) • Limpopo – Still busy with Thulamela and Fetakgomo libraries. • Eastern Cape - Mt Ayliff (Alfred Nzo District) and Mdantsane (Buffalo City) • KZN – Mbazwana (Umhlabuyalingana) • Gauteng – Vischkuil (Lesedi)
Achievements : National • Focused attention on visually impaired – DAISY project ( provinces working with SA Library for the Blind) • Republication of African Literature Classics • National architectural student competition to design a model library completed • Library Transformation Charter – public consultations completed
Investigation into training …….. • Purpose: • To establish the state of formalprovision of education and training by institutions of higher learning • Report on continuing professional development and workplace learning opportunities • Assess the needs of employers v/s provision of training • Service provider appointed

Investigation into Braille Production • Purpose: • To streamline the production of Braille and establish user and potential user needs.
