Exposure to MBIA How to Measure Exposure to MBIA • Joint Default Probability Approach: use joint default probabilities to “gross-up” standard limit • Tenor Approach: vary exposure by tenor of underlying transaction • Risk Based Capital Charge Approach: calculate the amount of incremental risk covered by MBIA as demonstrated by the S&P capital charge • BIS Risk Weighted Approach: Use the BIS guidelines to calculate the amount of exposure in a deal which is attributable to MBIA
