  1. 5 Things to Know about Delta-8 Tetrahydrocannabinol – Delta-8 THC

  2. Delta-8 THC products are not FDA-approved for safe use and may pose risks to public health. The FDA is well-aware of all the growing concerns surrounding products infused with Delta-8 tetrahydrocannabinol or Delta-8 THC. The products sold by most brands have not been evaluated or approved by the FDA for safe use in any context. There are issues pertaining to product formulations, product labeling, other cannabinoid terpene content, variable THC concentrations, etc.

  3. The FDA received reports of harm from delta-8 THC products. • Between 1st December 2020 and 28th February 2022, the FDAA received 104 reports of adverse events in patients who consumed Delta-8 THC products. Here are the particulars. • 77% were adults, 8% were pediatric patients below 18, and 15% did not report age. • 55% required medical intervention or hospital admission. • 66% described adverse events after ingesting Delta-8 THC edibles.

  4. Delta-8 THC can cause psychoactive and intoxicating effects. Delta 8 THC gummies and every other product containing Delta-8 THC have psychoactive and intoxicating effects like Delta-9 THC. The FDA knows of media reports of Delta-8 THC products inducing “high” among consumers. The FDA is even concerned that Delta-8 products may possibly expose users to higher levels of the substance than are naturally occurring in hemp cannabis raw extracts.

  5. Delta-8 THC products may contain harmful chemicals used to achieve high concentrations of delta-8 THC. Hemp contains very low quantities of Delta-8 THC naturally. Additional chemicals are required to convert other cannabinoids in hemp, such as CBD, into Delta-8 THC. The same thing is added to Delta-8 THC gummies, resulting in various alarming concerns.

  6. Keep Delta-8 THC products out of reach of children and pets. Manufacturers pack and label these products in ways that may appeal to children and pet parents. The products are available online and physical retailers, including convenience stores and gas stations. Age limits on purchase are not enforced in these establishments.
