  1. Tips To Staying Inside The Marijuana Laws In Colorado When On Vacation Colorado is one of the many states in the US that has legalized marijuana for recreational use. You do need to be twenty-one years or older in order to purchase and take part in a marijuana-friendly experience. Adults can possess up to one ounce of bud at any given time and if you live in Colorado, if you qualify for a medical condition, you can purchase medical marijuana. In order to purchase marijuana legally in Colorado you must make your purchase from a licensed dispensary. These are approved retail stores offering a range of marijuana products from flowers and buds to edibles and oils. They have licensed budtenders who are experienced to assist you with your purchase. In order to enter a store, you will need valid identification, enabling the budtender to confirm your identity and age. Marijuana contains THC and therefore it must stay in Colorado, you cannot fly out with it, drive with it or mail it across state lines. While it is allowed for recreational use in many States now, it is still federally illegal in bordering states. If you are heading home after a Colorado vacation, ensure you responsibly dispose of any leftovers before leaving. There are some regulations that must be met with some do's and don'ts you need to be aware of if you want to try marijuana while in Colorado. It is imperative that you check with the local laws, which can vary from one town to the next, some municipalities tend to have stricter rules than others. Ask the hotel staff what their policies are regarding marijuana use. Some State laws prohibit smoking or vaping in hotel rooms. Some hotels also prohibit it, including in outdoor areas, which may sway you towards trying edibles, rather than smoking. Consider booking a private vacation rental, many are marijuana friendly. They are not all marijuana friendly, so double check before booking. Another option is to stay with family or friends, as it is legal to use in private homes, as long as the owner approves. There are also licensed hospitality businesses where visitors can consume marijuana in a licensed business. Ask the budtender for recommendations and options. Never use marijuana on federal land. This includes national parks, ski slopes, biking and hiking trails and monuments. Remember it is still federally illegal, do not use or take it with you to these areas. Do not consume marijuana in public and outdoor spaces. Colorado prevents consuming in easily observed areas where members of the public can see you, this includes parks, streets, common areas of buildings, parks and venues. Some hospitality businesses will offer an outdoor area where consumption is legal. Never use cannabis in a car. This is the same as alcohol use and you can be charged with driving under the influence, leaving you with an expensive fine. Be smart and safe, only drive after six hours of smoking. If you have edibles or drinks, then wait eight hours. Do not let any car passengers use in your vehicle.

  2. When you do drive to a licensed dispensary to purchase marijuana, it will be given to you in a sealed and unused container, the same as alcohol. Keep it in the trunk until you arrive at your destination to be safe. As with alcohol, there are legal consequences to driving under the influence, using marijuana in federal areas or in hotel rooms. Rather don't take the risk and follow the rules to have an enjoyable marijuana vacation.
