  1. Making best Use of Thermal Transfer Ribbons to Produce Durable Label Printing Output Thermal transfer ribbons contain wax or resin-based ink that gets melted by the heat transferred through the print head. These ribbons are quite different from thermal paper which is a substrate itself that doesn’t require any consumable like ink or ribbons. Such a ribbon can be used on any kind of substrate from paper to synthetic and many others. Generally, labels of different types are printed with these kinds of ribbons as the print output is more durable and long lasting. Depending on the type of use, the ratio wax and resin varies in the different types of ribbons. The wax percentage is higher in ribbons that are required for softer image durability while the resin percentage is higher in ribbons needed for more durable print output. Different industries have their own requirements Labels printed with thermal transfer ribbons are a critical part of packaging as they contain all the vital details of the product especially those that help you to track and trace a particular product’s history. They also serve different purposes and functions in their utility e.g. a label meant for the shipping industry is quite different from a label for perishable food

  2. products like bread or milk. In case of shipping, not just the label but also the printing on the label needs to be strong and durable enough to withstand the rigors of the outdoor elements as well as handling during haulage. The labeling in the bread packaging need not be as robust as that of the variant used in shipping and it can be lighter and less durable. The three main types of ribbons There are three main types of thermal transfer ribbons that are in use and they all are designed to meet the specific needs of users. For instance, if the application is for products on retail shelves, labels for food and cosmetics packaging, etc. the coating on the ribbon can be totally or mostly wax. There is a hybrid version of ribbon made of wax and resin in almost even proportions that is useful for applications that require a little more durability. Finally, you have the ribbons with full resin-based coating that is useful for applications requiring heavy duty durability. Therefore, depending on the material for which you need the labels to be printed, choose your ribbon accordingly because those meant for heavy duty applications are expensive.
