  1. There Are Some Great Choices for Lovers of Body Jewellery Many individuals – sometimes from a fairly young age – enjoy body piercing as an art form and the extra dimension it brings into their lives. For thousands of years, right from ancient times, people have adorned themselves with jewellery of some kind. And, of course, as time went on, more and more people became interested and many more started wearing it. Today, of course, attitudes are quite modern and not only do people wear loose jewellery which they remove when it suits them; many now turn to body piercing to be able to adorn themselves with jewellery on a much more permanent basis: they often do not take the jewellery off but instead look at it as an almost permanent fixture in their ears, their earlobes, nose, eyebrows, the navel – in fact wherever on their body they feel comfortable wearing it. To adorn the ears with jewellery has been popular for many years, and in addition to easily removable earrings, many now prefer the idea of something more permanent in their ears – hence the popularity of, for example, ear tunnels and earplugs. You find these popular pieces of body jewellery in different shapes and sizes, which means the individual has various choices. This type of jewellery, which is an example of body piercing to express a certain individuality in terms of which jewellery is worn, is a more recent trend than those of years gone by. It involves having the earlobe stretched with a tunnel or plug for a different kind of effect than was the case in the past when an earring was either hung or attached to the lobe and then easily removed. The tunnel and plug are similar yet different, but both are meant as adornment or jewellery. The tunnel – as the term suggests – is hollow on the inside, the plug is solid. You can see right through the tunnel but not in the case of the plug. The latter fills the whole of the cavity that is created by the piercing, whereas the tunnel allows you to look right through except when, as some do, a plate is placed at the front of it, which is what some prefer. Keeping your tunnel or plugin place, is important: you do not want them to slip out of place and fall out. To this end, these pieces of earlobe jewellery come with so-called “O”-rings which are small rubber bands that you place at both ends of where the tunnel or plug appears on the lobe.

  2. This kind of attaching the plug or tunnel is also referred to as the so-called “No Flare” (no ridge or edge) plug. That way your jewellery will remain in place and you can almost forget about them being there because they are safely attached. In addition to the No Flare, there are also Single and Double Flare options whereby, instead of offering No Flare or ridge, it comes with either one or a double flare (or ridge) to help position the piece in your piercing and help keep it in place. The single you normally find at the front of the piercing and the double both front and back. It makes sense that for the latter you will not use the “O”-ring either. The other possibility, still, is the so-called screw-fit plug, which has a removable back for those users that have not fully healed piercings in the earlobe: they can unscrew the back piece and push the screw-fit through the lobe and then simply screw the tunnel or plug back on. These plugs and tunnels require, just like other body piercings, a clean surface, and the individual should always make sure they do not expose themselves to different risks such as dirt collecting in the cavities and those areas which one has pierced. Of course, earlobe piercing is only one example of body piercing; there are many more and it will always be an individual choice as to what areas of the body you want to have pierced. People are different, and therefore it is fortunate that different options cater to different tastes and individual personalities.
