Delano Celebrates District’s First Special Needs Playground Principal Dr. Malone, staff and students will celebrate the dedication of their new playground with a ribbon-cutting and back-to-school dance 1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 12 Specially-designed equipment includes supportive swings, slides, rock-climbing, tunnels, play panels A shelter house with electricity can be used as an outdoor classroom – low-impact surfacing softens falls The Crummett Family Estate generously funded the full $96,000 cost of the new equipment

Awards & Activities Lincoln College Preparatory Academy was highlighted by the Kansas City Star as one of three area public schools to have earned the coveted “blue ribbon” tag Only 320 schools nation-wide were announced by the U.S. Department of Education Blue-ribbon schools have either accomplished dramatic academic improvement among students from disadvantaged backgrounds or are among the best in their state based on test scores

Awards & Activities Acting Surgeon General Steven Galson visited Satchel Paige Elementary on September 4 to make a special award presentation for the Healthy Youth for a Healthy Future Program Principal James Jenkins was commended for implementing nutrition education, exercise and activity programs, a walking school bus program, student health ambassadors, and other innovations School-based/School-linked Services Director Felicia Safir was recognized with the General’s Coin, one of the top most honors that can be bestowed
