Welcome!!!! Team 8-2 is very excited about teaching your children. We are discovering what it means to do the following: • Learn about the world around us. • Achieve success in all areas through hard work and perseverance. • Become good citizens of the school, the community, and the world • Improve Leadership skills • Develop 21st century skills

Homework Use agendas. If you are absent, call your study buddy. No homework = Lunch Academy If you know about a test or quiz in advance, take the test when you return.
Grading Policy • 60% - tests, projects, major assignments • 30% - quizzes, class work, • 10% - homework
Alabama High School Graduation Exam Many of the objectives covered in the eighth grade academic classes will also appear on the Alabama Exit Exam.

Assigned daily- rarely on Fridays Some class time given, but not always enough to finish Expect 30 min./day MAX. Type of Questions: Answer “But why?” not 30 problems of same thing. 1-2 projects per term Final portfolio-submission to book Assignments
Course Content Math 8: Basic skills, solving equations, problem solving, proportions, statistics, number patterns, geometry (focus of Math Literacy Strategies class), polynomials Algebra: Functions, Rational numbers, solving equations, Graphing relations, Linear equations and Inequalities, Systems of equations, Polynomials, Factoring, Quadratic and Exponential Functions
Reminder RegardingAlgebra 1 • If your child decides to go on to Geometry 1 (stay on advanced track), his/her grade from 8th grade will be posted to their high school transcript • If Algebra 1 is retaken in high school, his/her 8th grade score will NOT be posted

Other Information • Students use hands-on activities. • Cooperative learning skills, organization, study skills, and vocabulary are taught and practiced. • Reading comprehension skills emphasized
