Narendra was trained in Indian classical music and regularly participated in physical exercise, sports and organized events. Narendra studied Western Logic, Western Philosophy, and European History at the General Assembly Institute (now known as Scottish Church College). In 1881, he passed the fine arts exam and received his Bachelor of Arts in 1884. Narendra studied the works of David Hume, Immanuel Kant, Johann Gottlieb Fichte, Baruch Spinoza,Georg WF Hegel, Arthur Schopenhauer, Auguste Comte, John Stuart Mill and Charles Darwin. He was fascinated by the evolutionism of Herbert Spencer and corresponded with him, translating Herbert Herbert Spencer's Education (1861) into Bengali. While studying Western philosophers, he also studied Sanskrit scriptures and Bengali literature. William Hasti (director of the Christian College in Calcutta, where Narendra graduated) wrote: Narendra is truly a genius. I have traveled far and wide, but have never met a guy with his talents and capabilities, even in German universities, among philosophy students. He will definitely leave his mark on life. " Narendra was known for his amazing memory and speed reading ability. Several incidents are given as examples. In his talk, he once quoted verbatim two or three pages from the Pickwick Papers. Another incident cited is his argument with a Swedish citizen, in which he referred to some details of Swedish history that the Swede initially disagreed with but later relented. In another case with Dr. Paul Deussen in Kiel, Germany, Vivekananda read some poetic work and did not answer when the professor spoke to him. He later apologized to Dr. Deussen, explaining that he was too keen on reading and therefore did not hear him. The professor was not satisfied with this explanation, but Vivekananda quoted and interpreted the verses from the text, leaving the professor dumbfounded about his feat of memory. One day, he asked the library for several books written by Sir John Lubbock, and returned them the next day, claiming that he had read them. The librarian refused to believe him until cross-examination of the contents convinced him that Vivekananda was telling the truth. for more information visit:https://shouts.site/vivekananda/
