Why your HMS should include Electronic Medical Records (EMR)

HMS covers three aspects in managing the hospital, they are Operational, Financial and Clinical Aspects. If you look at Hospital Management Software, most of the software cover only operational and financial aspects like billing, inventory management, patient registration, scheduling, and workflow management. Hospitals when evaluating HMS software gives much importance to operational and financial aspects and less importance to clinical records.

  1. Why your HIS should include Electronic Medical Records (EMR)

  2. Introduction HIS covers three aspects in managing the hospital, they are Operational, Financial and Clinical Aspects. If you look at Hospital Information Software, most of the software cover only operational and financial aspects like billing, inventory management, patient registration, scheduling, and workflow management. Hospitals when evaluating HIS software gives much importance to operational and financial aspects and less importance to clinical records. 2

  3. 1. What is EMR 2. Benefits of EMR for medical practices This blog talks about the importance focusing on clinical 3. What Benefits does EMR provide for the records, otherwise knowns as patients Electronic Medical Records (EMR) in HIS. 4. What are the Essential Core Capabilities Of EMR 3

  4. What is EMR ? EMR is called Electronic Medical Records (EMR), which include the information regarding the patient's medical history like their treatment as discrete medical practices possess them. When considering individual patients the EMR will indulge information like patient contact information (emergency contact), physician orders, allergies, insurance, and other billing information, surgical notes on various medical progress, prescriptions, vitals like weight, height, body temperature, BMI (Body Mass Index), etc., release information forms, medical facility appointments on past and future, treatment plans and Discharge summaries, etc. 4

  5. EMR constitutes different characteristics considering the medical practices which include their functioning system to all other medical care procedures. Apart from the software platform benefits, the Electronic Medical Record Systems also provides many other prominent pieces of information to care. Coordination procedures connecting receptions information and transfer departments, the software, personal use rules of the organizations, training, and education established plans are some of the well-established components of the Electronic Medical Record System. 5

  6. Benefits of EMR for the Medical Practice 6

  7. Benefits of EMR Below are some of the advantages the Electronic Medical Record bring on the Medical Practices. ● Capable of transferring information of the patient from one department to the other quickly. ● The digital record environment helps to save much space. ● Through EMR you can quickly enhance the serves number of patients for the improved productivity and workflow of the patients daily. ● The medical practice with reduced errors leads to vast improvement in patient care as well as the result management. 7

  8. The operational cost is much reduced with EMR especially for expenses made for overtime labor and the transcription services. ● With EMR, the electronic medical records can be customized and are scalable. ● The capability of providing any advanced clinical documentation and e-prescribing. ● The efficient and accurate process of billing with their advanced healthcare practices. 8

  9. What Benefits does EMR provide for the Patients? 9

  10. Improvement Patient Treatment and other Diagnosis of diseases. ● No chances for significant errors in a patient health record. ● Rapid decision-making responses and patient care from different medical professionals assigned for individual patients. 10

  11. What are the Essential Core Capabilities of the EHR? 1. Health Information and data 2. Result Management 3. Decision Support 4. Electronic Connectivity and Communication 5. Patient Support 6. Reporting 7. Integration 11

  12. 1. Health Information and Data: With EHR, you can access any essential information of the patients, their allergies, diagnosis of their diseases, medications, lab test results, etc. quickly, this provides the clear idea for the custodian or minder to decide on the treatments promptly. 2. Result Management: People who take care of the patients are provided with multiple settings regarding the patient care, and this will undoubtedly improve the effectiveness of the care and safety of the patients reliably through the quick access of past and new test results. 12

  13. 3. Decision Support The computerized EMR system makes use of the Prompts, reminders, alerts for the various benefits like providing the complementary clinical practices with improved compliances, possibilities of regular screenings and also capable of taking other vital methods, natural treatment and diagnosis and also helps to identify the possible interaction of the drugs, etc. precisely. 13

  14. 4. Electronic Connectivity and Communication The Improved care continuity, enhanced timeliness of the treatment and diagnosis of the diseases, reduced events frequency, etc. are some of the critical benefits the Electronic Medical System provides for the secure, efficient and accessible communication between the patients and the providers. 5. Patient Support The various tools provided for the patients like easy access to their health records anytime, interactive health table and patient education, self-testing and home monitor methods, etc. helps to keep their diabetes and other chronic diseases under their control. 14

  15. 6. Reporting Electronic Medical System has plenty of advantages indulged in the HIS. One of the critical reason for 90% of the Clinician chooses EHR is for their reduced human errors. For, E.g., if nurses and physicians have every minute details regarding their patient's history in their fingertip, then there might be no massive chances for the critical care and emergency treatment. By doing so, they will be able to calculate the patient's body conditions efficiently. As a whole, EHR security needs a fine tune in case of the substance abuse records and terms of the behavioral actions. The detailed history of the patients will help in finding a new health care provider through the patient's current health state and with the medical history. They also support exchanging the patient information with healthcare facilities if the patients have not requested for them. 15

  16. 7. Integration Electronic medical record (EMR) is not a standalone system rather it is a complete ecosystem with a number of integrations, making it a holistic solution for prevention, diagnosis, treatment, care, and management of medical conditions. 16
