The pros and cons below are subjective of course, so take them as you will. • PROS: • you will learn about cultures and people you have never even heard of at this point • you will learn to question what you thought was "normal" in your own culture, and this can lead to some eye-opening conversations
CONS: • anthropology is not a "marketable" skill according to a lot of workplaces • I have a career in marketing now, so it does not have anything to do with my major necessarily • you will most likely need to obtain an advanced degree (masters or doctorate) to do much in the actual field of anthro, otherwise undergrad-level jobs don't pay as well
I began to realize how so many things are just concepts (race, gender, sexuality, etc.), and that is great for people who were raised in more close-minded environments. • I enjoyed it! My classes were engaging and interesting at best, just boring at worst. • even just the reading, critical thinking, and writing skills you will develop are skills that can potentially help in a future job
