What is Screw Chiller and How Does it Work? A screw chiller is used in several industrial operations and applications. It is different from other chiller compressors and uses a screw compressor to function. The state of this chiller unit from the evaporator is the gas refrigerant. And after the compressor is compressed, it becomes a high-pressure state and high temperature. Now, the compressed gas refrigerant is made to cool and condense in the condenser under constant pressure. After condensation, it alters into a liquid refrigerant that is later expanded to turn it into a gas- liquid mixture. The liquid refrigerant at low temperature and pressure absorbs the material's heat and turns into gaseous refrigerant again. It then re-enters the compressor via a pipeline and begins a new cycle. Application of a screw chiller The power of the spiral screw chiller is higher than that of a scroll screw chiller. The latter is mainly used in large-scale industrial refrigeration and central air conditioning systems. The factories and industries use two different kinds of screw chillers, namely twin-screw chiller and single screw chiller. Twin screen chiller is a jet compressor that comes with adjustable energy. It uses three consecutive processes of suction, compression, and discharge to operate. These processes are realised by a pair of meshing male and female rotors that rotate to produce periodic volume changes. The main components of this chiller include a double rotor, main body, shaft seal, main bearing, balance piston, and energy regulating device. A single screw chiller, on the other hand, involves an active rotor and two-star wheels that enable compression. This chiller also uses continuous suction, compression, and exhaust processes but with a periodic volume change of the rotor. The rotor comprises of six teeth. The main components of this chiller are two-star wheels, rotor, main bearing, and energy regulating device. The capacity of this screw chiller ranges from 10 to 100 percent step-less adjustment and three or four-stage adjustment. Screw chillers have become extremely popular in industrial applications all over the world. However, before you choose one for use, it is essential to learn about its mechanism to make the right choice while bringing them to use!
