Difference between Lawyers and Advocates LAWYER • Lawyer is a basic term that refers to any person who has a law degree. • A lawyer refers to someone who is trained in law and has studied the law. • A lawyer according to Black's Law Dictionary, is "a person learned in the law; as an attorney, counsel or solicitor; a person licensed to practice law. . who gives legal advice.

ADVOCATE • An Advocate refers to a special type of lawyer who is eligible to stand in the court and can represent his client. • The term Advocate refers to the ability to speak from behalf of someone else in front of the court. • Not all the lawyers can represent their clients in front of the court only few have the eligibility to do that and are known by the name of Advocates.

  5. RESPONSIBILITIES OF LAWYERS • Represent clients in court. • Act as agent, trustee, guardian, or executor for businesses or individuals. • Provide court based legal services. • Present evidence to defend clients. • Drafting of important legal documents.

CRIMINAL LAWYERS • Criminal Lawyers (also known as Criminal Defence Lawyers) defend individuals who have been accused of committing a crime. • They conduct research, analyse cases, and present their findings in court in an effort to gain the defendant's freedom or negotiate a plea bargain or settlement's. • Aim to resolve cases as quickly and favourably as possible. • Represent clients at arraignments, hearings, and court trials.

Consumer Court Lawyers • Consumer advocates offer direct assistance to consumers. • Consumer advocates support the rights of the consumer to obtain safe goods and services at fair prices. • They are employed by government agencies, corporations, consumer protection organizations, and community groups to ensure that the needs of purchasers are met.

Corporate lawyers provide legal guidance for employers and clients. • Lawyers typically begin a new case by meeting with clients and trying to understand the details of the legal issue. • This may include reading corporate filings and consulting with other attorneys. • After assessing the issue, corporate lawyers typically research prior cases and look for established precedents.

Lawyers for LabourLaw • Labour lawyers execute common litigation activities, including negotiation, legal writing, oral advocacy and counselling. • These professionals must have a working knowledge of the legal principles that govern the employer-employee relationship. • Employment lawyers must understand laws such as the Fair Labour Standards Act, the Occupational Health and Safety Act, and workers compensation laws. • Employment lawyers may be hired to represent employers or employees in unemployment cases, pension disputes, benefit claims and contract disagreements.
