  2. So, just what do you have? Expertise! No one knows your job better than you. You are the one there at work every day making a difference in the lives of thousands of people and animals. YOU are the one that needs to share your knowledge with others. Think about this… Who do YOU want telling our school children about the use of animals in biomedical research?

  3. You have more than just knowledge! Close your eyes and mentally “walk” through your facility. Items and materials from each room have the potential of becoming public outreach tools. Look at these examples… • Temperature tapes from the washroom • Various sizes of syringes • Empty feed bags • Sterilized surgical pack • X-ray gloves and apron • Clean rodent shipping box • Rabbit or rodent restrainers

  4. PPE – “Show and Wear” For safety reasons, gloves MUST be latex-free and powder-free!

  5. Feed & Bedding – “Touch and Feel”

  6. Caging Samples

  7. Environmental Enrichment – “Explore”

  8. Rodent Housingand Enrichment

  9. Posters and Handouts

  10. Don’t forget to have a little fun, too! • Funny faces • Face painting • PPE parade • Gloves galore!

  11. Toys Make Excellent Learning Tools

  12. Photos = “1000 words +” • Photos make what you are talking about come to life. • They help alleviate concerns people may have about animal research. • Make sure photos contain nothing identifiable (room numbers, PI names, etc.) • Make sure caging/facilities are presentable before taking photos. • Always refer to company policies before taking or using internal photos.
