  1. Honey in coffee? Good Idea or Just Not It? Let’s Find Out! If you’re an avid coffee enthusiast, you’ve probably heard this debate before. Honey in tea is a regular old thing, but honey in coffee? Now that is turning some heads. No doubt, honey is a wonderful golden liquid that we all love. Likewise, we also love our daily shot of caffeine. But the question is if these two go together. You might be wondering, who even came up with this idea! Well, food is simply one of those fields where people love to unleash their creativity. Before we get into the crux of the matter, let’s take a look at the history of honey. History of Honey and Why It Matters Honey goes a long way back in human history. We talk a lot about gathering fruits, hunting, domesticating cattle, and agriculture yet we forget honey. Humans have been using honey long before any of the above. For instance, we have ancient cave paintings showing people collecting honey. As we dive deeper into history, we learn that Honey Products has uses beyond food. Here are some of the common uses we can observe from history:  One of the common uses of honey was to ferment a variety of beverages. Honey mead is a popular present-day example of such a drink. The drink is typically allowed to ferment for weeks to months before it is fit for consumption.  Other than that, honey was also seen as a treatment or a cure for skin injuries such as burns and wounds. Some modern research suggests that there is some truth to this. For instance, it appears that honey can heal injuries faster than other medications by at least 3 to 4 days. Moreover, it also keeps infections and other related issues at bay compared to antiseptic.  Additionally, it also seems to be useful as a topical antibiotic. Since there seems to be an increase in antibiotic-resistant bacteria, we might have to revert to these old methods.  Lastly, some studies show that honey might be able to cure cough, especially in young children. However, the evidence is too low to count. Still, it is a better option for children than putting them on medication. Almost all of these uses are from past civilizations. So you can imagine why honey remains an important product even today. Anyway, let’s move on and take a look at honey in coffee. Honey Coffee Let’s find out what honey coffee is before we can decide whether it is good or bad. You will find a few popular recipes using which you can make honey coffee. Below are some of the most common that you can try. Honey Coffee with Milk This recipe is fairly simple and straightforward. You will need:

  2.  A Saucepan  Coffee (instant)  Milk  Honey of your choice  Cinnamon  Nutmeg For this recipe, combine all the ingredients in a saucepan. Use a cup of milk and coffee to suit your strength preference. Add a pinch of each, cinnamon and nutmeg. Be careful while adding honey as you don’t want to sweeten it too much. Whisk the ingredients together on medium heat. Wait for the milk to come to a boil, and pour it into your cup. If you use cinnamon sticks, use a tea strainer. Honey Coffee - in Black You can try this recipe with instant coffee or brew yourself a shot of espresso. However, it might not turn out very well with cold brews, we’ll explore why further below.  Make yourself a cup of black as you always do.  Mix a spoonful of honey in it until dissolved. You can use any honey or honey blossom variety you like. In addition to this, you can also squeeze the juice of half a lemon into it. Likewise, try different additions until you find your perfect cup of honey coffee. The issue with cold brew is that it won’t dissolve easily in the cold mix. Moreover, the essence of cold brew is not exposing the coffee grains to heat. So there’s no point in this brew where you can mix honey into it. Vanilla Espresso With a Twist If you regularly add a pump of vanilla to your espresso, you’re going to love this twist. For this, make your coffee as usual. To this, add a spoonful of your choice of honey products. You can add creamed honey, honey blossom, clover honey, or orange blossom honey. Adding honey will add whole new depths to your coffee. Furthermore, the taste will vary according to the type of honey you add to it. Taste Checking Before you begin to judge if adding honey to coffee is a good idea or not, keep the following guidelines in mind. Make sure there’s no aftertaste of other food. To be able to judge truly, you should be able to taste only the beverage. Wait for the coffee to cool a little. If it’s too hot, you won’t be able to taste the undertones of honey. Don’t try all the varieties at once. While you try these drinks, you can read about what we think. The general consensus is that honey products in coffee are perfectly acceptable. They are also becoming highly popular as a top choice to sweeten coffee. Moreover, different honey types make it an exciting experiment for honey enthusiasts too.

  3. Experimenting with Honey Honey pairs well with many hot beverages as with coffee. Take tea, for instance, it's often consumed honey instead of sugar. Likewise, you can test out how honey goes with different drinks, hot and otherwise. While you’re at it, try different varieties of honey.  Acacia honey has a clean flavour.  Blackberry honey has a deep and rich taste. It is slightly fruity with a hint of citrus or tang.  Wildflower honey has a mild test and is sweet. Likewise, you can check out the flavour profile of honey types and use them accordingly. Some are better suited for cooking while others go well with beverages or fruit toppings. Conclusion It is impossible to say conclusively whether honey goes with coffee or not. Ultimately, it falls to one's personal preferences in the matter. At the same time, its taste is impressive enough to try it out at least once.
