History behind the town of Somerville, a Middlesex County city located just north of Boston. Before Somerville separate itself from Charlestown, it was known as “Charlestown beyond the Neck”. This was because it was part of the Massachusetts mainland rather than the Charlestown Peninsula. Somerville is a part of Massachusetts’s 8th congressional district. This was done for the purpose of elections to the United States House of Representatives. It is represented by Republican Michael Capuano, a former mayor a Somerville. On the borders of Somerville and Cambridge, it is highly inhabited with college students and young professionals. Somerville’s main attraction is Davis Square, home to a lively coffeehouse scene with several coffeehouses, each portraying its own fiercely loyal clientele. The most noticeable coffee shop is Diesel Café, located on Elm Street; it attracts people of all hours of the day and night.
