Ageing Transport Systems • Long standing JAA MST/CST involvement in ATSRAC • ATSRAC initial focus on aircraft installed wiring systems – electrical wiring interconnect systems (EWIS) • Service difficulties and occurrences identified EWIS as primary focus • Study continues on other systems and their inherent features 20th Annual JAA/FAA International Conference

Ageing Transport Systems • ATSRAC Task Group 6 addressed wiring issues FAA/JAA/TC involvement with industry wide participation • ATSRAC Task 6 report recommends changes to Part 25 • Part 25 – Subpart H – Electrical Wiring Interconnect Systems • Subpart H requires discrete safety assessment of wiring interconnect system and includes requirement for instructions for continued airworthiness 20th Annual JAA/FAA International Conference

Ageing Transport Systems • Task Groups 3 & 9 developed maintenance analysis logic to address in-service continued airworthiness • Maintenance analysis logic adopted by ATA Maintenance Programme Sub-Committee and included in MSG 3 Revision 2001 • Task Group 8 (Training) report recommends improved training for Mechanics/Inspectors 20th Annual JAA/FAA International Conference

Ageing Transport Systems • Economic aspects of implementation must be considered • Options • Mandate Parts 25 21 changes and training with ‘voluntary’ compliance for ICAW • Mandate Part 25 21 changes and retro-active compliance with ‘voluntary’ compliance for training • JAA implementation options being developed 20th Annual JAA/FAA International Conference

  6. Ageing Transport Systems • FAA project – enhanced airworthiness programme for aircraft systems (EAPAS) – continuing • JAA participation sought by FAA – subject to JAA MST/CST agreement • ATSRAC continues – harmonise implementation criteria 20th Annual JAA/FAA International Conference
