Researcher aims to secure RFID tags By: Guillermo Zuniga CSCE 390 Assignment 08 April 20, 2010
RFID Background • Radio Frequency Identification • Uses radio waves to identify people or objects • Consists of an antenna and a transceiver • Similar to barcode system
RFID Uses • Animal tracking • anti-theft tags in merchandise • Passports • Human tracking
Security • There are great risks involved with these RFIDs. • For example, passports have the risk of being hacked into with the right tools. • If all the information stored is valuable, others may find the way to get the information
Ethics • Today, like the researcher, many are trying to find a way to avoid hacking into this sensitive information. • When one finds a way to get in, another finds a way to block. • This process continues, as both get smarter.
