  1. Before proceeding with the steps of SMTP settings let us understand what is SMTP? Simple Mail Transfer Protocol is a protocol of mail transmission which is required to control the process of sending emails. With SMTP servers for iPad Mail app, it can now be accessed on different platforms. SMTP is different from POP servers; also your every action on AOL email accessed on iPad will be copied on IMAP server. You can also view your folders organized on AOL email elsewhere set up on your iPad. You can also set up email account manually on iPad as well.

  2. How to set up SMTP on iPad- 1. From iPad's home screen go to Mail app and then select webmail account from Other. You can directly select Settings icon on home screen if you already have an account and then click on Mail, Contact and Calendars in the sidebar and then click on Add Account. 2. With the help of onscreen keyboard enter the name in Name field. Whatever name you will feed, you device will forward the same name with every email you forward. on IMAP.

  3. 3. In the Address box enter your full email address. You can also enter the address with different domain name. And password in the Password field. 4. Select Next after giving description for your email account in Description field. 5. At the top of New Account pane click on IMAP. 6. Under Incoming Mail Server, in Host Name field enter Imap.aol.com. 7. Under Outgoing Mail Server, in host name box type Smtp.aol.com.

  4. 8. In both Incoming Mail Server and Outgoing Mail Server under Username and Password fields type your full email address and password. 9. Click Next. And then iPad will validate the settings.
