Concrete can sink or settle for various reasons. One common reason in an improper sub grade, or material underneath the constructed area. Concrete that was installed on improper sub grade may not have been properly compacted. Eventually, the slab will start to settle over a few years.
Another common cause of concrete settling is soil erosion. Drainage, run off from roof water, and improper downspout placement can be a contributor in soil erosion and thus, slab settlement. So, though there are many varied causes for concrete settling, there is a relatively simple repair option available for homes and buildings.
