St. Elias Guides

Professional Alaska Adventure Guides
St. Elias Alpine Guides has been guiding first-rate adventures led by professional guides since 1978. We are professional Alaska adventure guides and Alaska hiking guides with decades of experience in the wilderness. From half-day glacier hikes to week-long backpacking trips and 30 day climbing expeditions, we take great pride in making sure that your experience is exceptional!

We are based in McCarthy, at the heart of Wrangell-St. Elias National Park and the largest preserved wilderness area on earth. This is Alaska at its finest, where you will find massive mountains, enormous glaciers, wild rivers and none of the crowds of Denali or the Kenai. We are the local experts on this vast wilderness and love to share it with our guests!

Our one-day adventures and overnight trips are popular with folks traveling around Alaska who want to get “off the beaten path”. Our glacier hikes are a highlight of any Alaska trip (or so we’ve been told over and over again) and if you’re feeling a little more adventurous you can even try your hand at ice climbing!

If you have a little more time and want to really get out in the wilderness, we recommend that you join us for a multi-day base-camp trip or backpacking adventure. These are fully outfitted and led by some of the best guides in the industry, not only professionals, but a whole lot of fun as well!

If you’re not quite up for all that hiking, you can join us for a wilderness river adventure. These are “luxury” trips – we cook three course meals and bring along just about all the comforts of home!

Finally, if you are an experienced climber or an aspiring one, we offer a variety of mountaineering courses and expeditions in the remote and spectacular Wrangell, St. Elias and Chugach Mountains. We even offer a first-ascents program, where you can be the first one to stand on top of a peak rising from the Bagley Icefield!

Whether you are an individual, family or group of friends, please call us and I know we can put together a great trip for you!
