Nizral Cream by Johnson and Johnson (Generic Ketoconazole 2% Cream) Uses of Nizral Cream 2%: Nizral cream, marketed by Janssen Pharmaceuticals, India (A division of Johnson & Johnson) contains a medicine called Ketoconazole. This belongs to a group of medicines called ‘antifungals’. Nizral cream is used for fungal and yeast infections of the skinin adults. Infections may appear on the: Trunk, chest or back,Hands or feet,Scalp or face, Groin or genitals. Nizral cream works by killing the fungus that causes the infection. Ketoconazole cream, 2% is indicated for the topical treatment of tinea corporis, tinea cruris and tineapedis caused by Trichophyton rubrum, T. mentagrophytes and Epidermophyton floccosum; in the treatmentof tinea (pityriasis) versicolor caused by Malassezia furfur (Pityrosporum orbiculare); in the treatment ofcutaneous candidiasis caused by Candida spp. and in the treatment of seborrheic dermatitis. © The Swiss Pharmacy

Nizral Cream by Johnson and Johnson (Generic Ketoconazole 2% Cream) Recommended Adult Dosage The dose of Nizral Cream (Generic Ketoconazole Cream) Nizral Cream (Generic Ketoconazole Cream) is given below: Cutaneous Candidiasis, Tinea Corporis, Tinea Cruris, Tinea Pedis, And Tinea (Pityriasis) Versicolor: It is recommended that Ketoconazole cream, 2% be applied once or twice a day to cover the affected and immediate surrounding area. Your doctor will tell youhow often to use it and for how long. Clinical improvement may be seen fairly soon after treatment is begun. However, candidal infections and tinea cruris and corporis should be treated for two weeks in order to reduce the possibility of recurrence. Patients with tinea versicolor usually require two weeks of treatment. Patients with tinea pedis require six weeks of treatment. Nizral Cream by Johnson and Johnson (Generic Ketoconazole 2% Cream) Recommended Adult Dosage If a patient shows no clinical improvement after the treatment period, the diagnosis should be redetermined. Seborrheic Dermatitis: Nizral Cream (Generic Ketoconazole 2% Cream) should be applied to the affected areas once or twice daily. The normal initial duration of treatment in seborrheic dermatitis is 2 to 4 weeks or as directed by your doctor. Skin infections will usually get better after 2 to 4 weeks. Maintenance therapy can be applied intermittently (once weekly) in seborrheic dermatitis. Treatment should be continued until a few days after the disappearance of all symptoms. The diagnosis should be reconsidered if no clinical improvement is noted after 4 weeks of treatment. General measures in regard to hygiene should be observed to control sources of infection or reinfection. Seborrhoeic dermatitis is a chronic condition and relapse is highly likely. According to 2019 research, Ketoconazole is safe to use topically, and people should be able to use Ketoconazole topical cream (Nizral cream) for its intended purpose safely. However, the researchers note that in some cases, contact dermatitis may occur. It is very important that you use this medicine only as directed by your doctor. Do not use more of it, do not use it more often, and do not use it for a longer time than your doctor ordered. To do so may cause unwanted side effects or skin irritation. This medicine is for use on the skin only. An overdose of Ketoconazole topical (Nizral cream) is not expected to be dangerous. If a reaction suggesting sensitivity or chemical irritation should occur, use of the medication should be discontinued. Hepatitis (1:10,000 reported incidence) and, at high doses, lowered testosterone and ACTH induced corticosteroid serum levels have been seen with orally administered Ketoconazole. These effects have not been seen with topical Ketoconazole. A long-term feeding study in Swiss Albino mice and in Wistar rats showed no evidence of oncogenic activity. The dominant lethal mutation test in male and female mice revealed that single oral doses of Ketoconazole as high as 80 mg/kg produced no mutation in any stage of germ cell development. One of the patients treated with Ketoconazole cream developed a painful allergic reaction. During worldwide postmarketing experience, rare reports of contact dermatitis have been associated with Ketoconazole cream (Nizral cream) or one of its excipients, namely propylene glycol. Ketoconazole has been observed to be teratogenic (syndactylia and oligodactylia) in the rat when given orally in the diet at 80 mg/kg/day, (10 times the maximum recommended human oral dose). However, these effects may be related to maternal toxicity, which was seen at this and higher dose levels. There are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women. Ketoconazole cream should be used during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus. If used during lactation and Nizral Cream is applied to the chest, care should be taken to avoid accidental ingestion by the infant.
