Synereo is a distributed, decentralized next-gen social network. Chapter 1 describes a subset of features that form the Attention Model algorithm responsible for content distribution within the network.

  4. Sue Bob The Basics - Home This is your Home Synereo. Jane Chandler Joey You Phoebe Rachel Monica The Home Synereo is the network of your friends and peers. People you’ve chosen to connect with mutually.

  5. The Basics Synereo (syn=together; rheo=flow; say “scenario”) is designed as an electrical circuit, with users functioning as electrical components modulating electrical flow. User engagement with content has a direct impact on the way data flows across the network. As the network grows and learns from its users, its topology adapts and changes to accommodate them.

  6. Sue Bob The Basics - Reo Jane Chandler Joey You Circle size indicates “Reo”: relative influence in your Home Synereo. The distance between your circle and another’s reflects how much you interact. Phoebe Reo Rachel Monica Distance determines how hard it is to get your content across. Reo determines the visibility of the content once it gets there.

Phoebe Rachel Monica The more someone interacts with you, the more you draw them into your circle. The closer a user is, the easier it is for you to get their attention.

Sue Bob The Basics - Distance & Reo Jane Chandler Joey You Phoebe Sue, Jane, and Chandler don’t engage with your content very often; these are the outskirts of your network, the people who know and appreciate you less than others. Rachel Monica Far-away interactions are much more indicative of the quality of your content. When distant peers interact with your content, your Reo increases more than when your closer friends do it.

  10. Michael Bob The Basics - Asymmetricity Sue Joey Your friend Joey has his own Home Synereo and sees the network differently. Chandler You For starters, since you engage with him less often than the other people in his Home Synereo, you are farther away from him from his perspective.

  11. Michael Bob The Basics - Rebroadcasting Sue Joey If Joey interacts with content you share, that content is broadcast to his Synereo. Chandler You Since some of your friends are closer to Joey, it now becomes easier for your content to reach them.

  12. Michael Bob The Basics - Rebroadcasting Sue Joey Chandler You Joey is also connected to Michael, who is not a part of your Home Synereo. If Michael chooses to engage with your content, you receive a significant Reo increase.

  13. The Basics - Permeation You This rebroadcasting effect allows your content to permeate to larger and larger crowds.

  14. The Basics You As relationships form, change and grow, and as information flow is shaped by ongoing user interaction, the network dynamically evolves to facilitate that flow to where it will be appreciated.
