  2. Steps to rebuild the company file in QuickBooks Firstly close all the open windows in QuickBooks. Click on file menu option. Click on utilities option. Click on click rebuild data option. In case there is any warning message on computer screen then click on OK option. Do not replace your current backup. But instead of that use a newly formatted external media source for this backup. Click on no option if you see a message saying that you want to replace the backup file. Click on OK option from the bottom of QuickBooks backup window. In case the backup process fails, then click on cancel option from the rebuild prompt. At this time, you should make a copy of the company file and attempt the rebuild process again using the copy of the company file. ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ●

  3. The rebuild data utility will begin as soon as the backup process is complete. Click on OK option to rebuild data. Close your company file, and then reopen with a refresh list of files. Click on file menu option. Click on open company option. Select the company you want to open, and then click on open option. Review your reports.
