Launching the latest addition to its long list of media streaming device, Amazon is ready to take on Roku. The new Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K is 80-percent faster than any of the previous Fire TV Sticks.
Not to mention, it supports 4K HDR video in both the Dolby Vision and HDR10+ formats. It also includes a new remote with dedicated buttons for volume and power, so you don’t need a separate remote for basic TV controls.
The new device is now available for pre-order on Amazon for a mere price of $50and will ship in US and Canada on October 31. It effectively replaces the last Amazon Fire TV, the pendant that the company discontinuing merely a year after its launch. However, if you already have A Fire family media streaming device, you can simply buy the new remote separately for $30.
Not just for 4K • The new Fire TV Stick 4K is not only faster than the previous Fire TV Stick, but the Fire TV Cube and pendant as well. The Fire TV Cube and pendant use a 1.5GHz quad-core processor chip, while the Fire TV Stick 4K uses a 1.7GHz processor.
According to Amazon, that makes the new Fire device 80-percent faster than the non-4K version. The new Amazon Fire TV Stick is the cheapest 4K HDR players in the market. It also has the advantage of supporting both Dolby Vision as well as HDR10+.
While compared to HDR10, these formats can optimize color on a per-scene basis, Amazon has no plans to support HDR10+ or Dolby Vision. Even the video streaming service by parent company Amazon, Prime Video offers a selectionof videos in HDR10, HDR10+, and Dolby Vision, while Netflix onlysupports HDR10 and Dolby Vision.
