  3. Christ-Centered Homes Have Spiritual Leadership and Teamwork. • Christian men must step up and lead! • The husband/father is to be the spiritual leader (“head”).

  4. Ephesians 5:22-24 (NASB) 22 Wives, be subject to your own husbands, as to the Lord. 23 For the husband is the head of the wife, as Christ also is the head of the church, He Himself being the Savior of the body. 24 But as the church is subject to Christ, so also the wives ought to be to their husbands in everything. – cf. 1 Peter 3:6

  5. Ephesians 6:4 (NASB) And, fathers, do not provoke your children to anger; but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.

  6. Genesis 18:19a (NASB) "For I have chosen him, in order that he may command his children and his household after him to keep the way of the LORD by doing righteousness and justice…

  7. Statistically, women have been the “spiritual backbone” in the home and even the leaders in spiritual matters because the men failed to step up!

  8. Yet, there cannot be two leaders or heads for a household to run successfully toward spiritual goals.

  9. 1 Corinthians 11:3 (NASB) But I want you to understand that Christ is the head of every man, and the man is the head of a woman, and God is the head of Christ.

  10. Christian men must step up and lead! • Every man will have to give an account to God on how they did as spiritual leaders of their families (2 Cor. 5:10). • Do not shirk your responsibility and say, “Who am I that I should lead?”(cf. Exod. 3:11), for God will be with you!

  11. You cannot force your spouse to lead or follow, but you can be a good example through your steadfast commitment to the Lord (1 Pet. 3:1-2).

  12. Christ-Centered Homes Have Spiritual Leadership and Teamwork. • Christian men must step up and lead! • The husband and wife should work together to accomplish spiritual goals. • United as one physically (Mat. 19:5) and spiritually in the Lord (cf. 1 Cor. 6:17).

  13. There is Great Strength to Overcome the Devil When United in the Lord! Ecclesiastes 4:12 (NASB) And if one can overpower him who is alone, two can resist him. A cord of three strands is not quickly torn apart.

  14. Husbands must treat their wives with equality and honor. 1 Peter 3:7 (NASB) You husbands likewise, live with your wives in an understanding way, as with a weaker vessel, since she is a woman; and grant her honor as a fellow heir of the grace of life, so that your prayers may not be hindered.

  15. Wives must respect their husbands, looking to them for spiritual leadership. Ephesians 5:33 (NASB) Nevertheless let each individual among you also love his own wife even as himself; and let the wife see to it that she respect her husband.

  16. Working together as a team, parents can have a positive, spiritual impact on their children!

  17. Christ-Centered Homes are Centered on His Word. • The Bible should be lifted up as the most important book in the house!

  18. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 (KJV) 16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: 17 That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.

  19. The Most Important Book in the House! • Spiritual education is put above secular ed. (1 Cor. 1:18-20ff.). • Scripture reading/teaching above the writings of men (1 Tim. 4:13). • Family gatherings around the Holy Bible which has the power to build your family up! (Heb. 4:12; Acts 20:32)

  23. Christ-Centered Homes are United to Walk by the Same Rule! Philippians 3:16 (NKJV) Nevertheless, to the degree that we have already attained, let us walk by the same rule, let us be of the same mind.

  24. “Golden Rules” Colossians 3:12-14 (NASB) 12 And so, as those who have been chosen of God, holy and beloved, put on a heart of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience; 13 bearing with one another, and forgiving each other, whoever has a complaint against anyone; just as the Lord forgave you, so also should you. 14 And beyond all these things put on love, which is the perfect bond of unity.

  25. Abiding by “the golden rules” of Christ. • Strong marriages follow the rules of love(1 Cor. 13:4-8; Gal. 5:13; Eph. 4:2; 5:25, 28; Tit. 2:4; Jas. 2:8; 1 Pet. 4:8). • Children need rules, boundaries, and structure (Prov. 6:20-23). • This brings peace, safety, stability, and comfort to home life.

  26. Christ-Centered Homes strive to be Like Christ. • Jesus is the role model family members imitate (1 Cor. 11:1; cf. 1 Pet. 2:21). • Can our children tell that it is Christ that we admire the most? • Spiritual growth or “character building” is the goal for every family member.

  27. Colossians 1:28 (NASB) And we proclaim Him, admonishing every man and teaching every man with all wisdom, that we may present every man complete in Christ. – cf. Eph. 4:22-24

  30. Sin is addressed with Gospel principles. • Parents humbly admit their mistakes which encourages their children to do the same. • Sin is not ignored or tolerated, but confronted honestly by the word of God (Luke 17:3; cf. 2 Tim. 3:16). • Family members do not “keep score” but forgive each other (Luke 17:4; cf. Mat. 18:22; 1 Cor. 13:5).

  31. Christ-centered homes practice the forgiveness of Christ! Ephesians 4:31-32 (NASB) 31 Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, along with all malice. 32 And be kind to one another, tender-hearted, forgiving each other, just as God in Christ also has forgiven you.

  32. Christ-Centered Homes Have OnlyOne Master and Lord. • Jesus is Lord, the only Master of the house (His house and your house too!). • Jesus is be revered as the One “far above all rule, power, authority, dominion” and the One as “head over all things”(Eph. 1:21-22).

  33. Hebrews 3:6 (NASB) But Christ was faithful as a Son over His house whose house we are, if we hold fast our confidence and the boast of our hope firm until the end.

  34. Christ-Centered Homes Nothing of the world is allowed to compete for their devotion to the Lord.

  35. Matthew 6:24 (NASB) "No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will hold to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.

  36. “All things are lawful for me, but I will not be mastered by anything. – 1 Corinthians 6:12b • Christ-centered homes strive for a balanced approach toward schooling, sports, recreation, entertainment, etc.

  37. Nothing of the world is allowed to compete for their devotion to the Lord. • Holiness is to be given priority over friendship with the world (2 Cor. 6:17-18; cf. Jas 4:4; 1 Jn 2:15-17) • Christ-centered families don’t care if they are not liked by the world, as long as they please the Lord! (John 15:19).

  38. John 15:19 (NASB) "If you were of the world, the world would love its own; but because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you.

  44. Prayer is a needed place of refuge and strength for the family. Psalm 18:1-2;- cf. Phil. 4:6-7 1 "I love Thee, O LORD ,my strength." 2 The LORD is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer, my God, my rock, in whom I take refuge; My shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.

  45. Singing Spiritual Songs to Draw Near to God and One Another. Colossians 3:16 (NASB) Let the word of Christ richly dwell within you, with all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with thankfulness in your hearts to God.

  47. What are you willing to do for a Christ-Centered home?

  48. A Christ-centered home requires your love, a willingness to sacrifice your all for the spiritual well-being of your family (John 15:13).
